Consistent grind for drop coffee September 7, 2010 A. Lee Since I upgraded my coffee maker to a Technivorm Moccamaster, I needed a more consistent grinder than the blade grinder I had been using for the last 10 years.
The Capresso 565 worked as expected: consistent grinds, not too noisy (for a grinder), and reasonably fast. Stainless Steel matches the Moccamaster and is easy to keep clean. I have noticed a bit of the static electricity common to burr grinders, but, since I am using a fairly course grind and live in Seattle, it has not been a problem.
Great Product September 5, 2010 Steve (Indianapolis) Over the years I've searched for a good way to grind my coffee. Ultimately, I found out that burr grinders were the way to go and bought one. It worked but was performance was spotty. Sometimes it wouldn't grind well (it just made noise, but no coffee). After two years or so, I replaced it. The replacement was better but still didn't work well all the time.
I bought this a few weeks ago to replace the burr grinder that I had. This is very superior to the other grinder that I had and cost less than the other one. This grinds smoothly and, for a grinder, quietly.
great September 5, 2010 amazon women I use this to grind my flaxseed fresh each morning and it works great have had no problems with clogging up and I love just turning the dial & wallking away to do something else in the morning. Would recommend to anyone + very sturdy built.
Decent grinder with some major drawbacks August 30, 2010 Peter Droppa (Austin, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Let me start with the good:
Grind quality...is superb. The grinder produces consistent grind at just about all the settings. The super fine setting is excellent for espresso and Turkish styles, while the coarse is great for French press.
Reliability...is solid. I have owned this grinder for about 2 years now and with daily use it's shown no signs of wear and performs consistently every time.
Price...very competitive for this segment. Given the reliability of the machine, and the quality of grind produced, the price is very low.
Regular cleanup...is a breeze. Really not much to this, everything you need to clean comes apart without any tools and goes together easily.
Now to the bad:
Static...this is a huge issue with this grinder. I live in relatively dry climate, so static is a daily issue. This could have been easily resolved by providing a glass container instead of plastic. As it is, I am forced to either wait 30 minutes after grinding prior to removing the grinds, or dealing with cleanup afterwards as the grinds fly out of the container with static. I started grinding my beans the night before to avoid dealing with this altogether, but it does take away from the quality of the coffee made.
Loose container...yep, the grinds container slowly travels out of the grinder during the grinding process. The vibration of grinding appears to slowly shift the container out. What you end up with is grinds that fall behind the container and require additional cleaning. This means it's not a set it and forget it grinding. Instead, you have to hold the container in place (or put some sort of sticky tape underneath) during the entire grinding process. This is a burr grinder and thus it takes a minute or two to fill up the container.
Rubber legs...tend to stick to the counter top and come out when you lift the grinder. This is not a big issue at all but annoying nonetheless. The legs should be either glued in or attached permanently in some other way.
Leftover grinds...are a mess. There's a significant amount of grinds that get left in the burrs after grinding. To avoid dealing with this, I give grinder a good knock or two on the side before removing the container and this drops most of the grinds out.
Bottom line:
Although the grinds produced are consistent and the unit is reliable, there are enough drawbacks that I would not purchase this unit again. Instead I would spend a little more on a unit which has a locking glass container.
Great machine August 28, 2010 Fishfinder This machine sounds powerful, very quick with excellent grind quality. Sturdy plastic coffee bin, with a solid feel throughout, somewhat heavy. I enjoy the sound in the morning no high pitch grinding, but a deep low whirl. I'm very happy with my purchase. Delivery was quick and the grinder had explicit easy to follow instructions, but be careful to properly install the coffee bean container. Gary
