Grind not fine enough September 7, 2010 Thach Nguyen (San Jose, CA USA) I bought this at Kohl's for espresso beans used in Gaggia Classic. At lowest setting (1) and heavy tamp (30lbs), I was unable to extract crema. With my older Braun grinder, my grind at setting (1) was visually finer and Gaggia was able to extract crema with same tamp. The unit has an easy programmable interface but that's not important if it can't deliver fine enough grind for proper espesso. Now, it sits pretty keeping my busy Braun grinder company.
Static Static Static August 27, 2010 Petuma 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It grinds coffee well. That's where my satisfaction ends. Even in the most humid weather, the static charge that accumulates on the plastic coffee receiver is infuriating. You cannot remove this thing from the machine nor pour out its contents without ground coffee going all over the place. Coffee remains stuck to the inside of the receiver and has to be rinsed out. Why they didn't make it our of tin or stainless steel I cannot say but I can gue$$.
Loud and messy August 12, 2010 Ingrid Paul If I still had the packaging this would go back. The unit is much loader than the Capresso burr grinder and leaves coffee grounds all over, when transferring from hopper to coffee maker.
Good grinder, but messy (to) clean up August 3, 2010 Susan Menosky (Atlanta, GA, US) Overall, this is a nice, efficient, quick grinder. You can set the # of cups you need ground, also the coarse-ness of the grind you prefer. These are nice features.
My only complaints as a daily user of this product (for the last 3 months):
1) You must unplug the device each time, as there is no "Off" button (or, your choice to leave on).
2) The most irritating thing (IMO) is: The ground coffee makes a mess all over your hands, and around your coffee pot (and counter), during & after attempting to pour the ground coffee into the coffee filter. I find myself continually having to diligently clean up all the many coffee grounds scattered on the kitchen counter, hands, etc. Also, I have to either/or use a knife (etc) to relieve any leftover beans from the grinder (into the filter), and/or keep knocking the plastic grinder holder on the counter to release any "stuck" grinds from the bottom of the grinder.
3) As 1 other reviewer mentioned: It's a good idea to gently tap the entire grinder (WITH plastic grind-catcher still attached), BEFORE removing grind-catcher to pour ground beans into filter, since the grinder disperses ground beans all over the place (kind of), and by tapping the entire grinder BEFORE pouring the grinds, you catch that "last" bit of grinds which might still be stuck up in the grinder itself. Otherwise, if you remove the plastic catcher from the grinder without tapping out the remaining beans, once the catcher is removed & you place the grinder back on the counter, then all the extra coffee/beans that were "stuck" up in the grinder, now suddenly appear (pour out) all over the base of your grinder (and counter) as mentioned previously.
Once you get the hang of knowing how to do the above-mentioned, things work fine. But again, be fore-warned of the bit of "cleaning" that must go into each pot made as well.
Overall, not a bad device, grinds very nicely, just have to watch the bit of mess that can be made when grinding (and pouring) the beans. Enjoy!
No More Smelly Coffee July 20, 2010 J. Aponick
For years I had two annoyances with the purchase of whole bean coffee: the struggle with opening and re-sealing the bag at the store and often the residual taste and smell from flavored coffees which previously had been run through the store's grinder. I want coffee to taste like coffee and not hazle nuts or chocolate!
This grinder has solved the problems. It is well made. The design is attractive. It is easy to operate either programmed or manually. It cleans easily. Disassembly for cleaning and reassembly also are easily done. The grind is adjustable over a wide range. Best of all, I no longer spill the beans or the ground coffee in the store and the coffee always tastes like coffee. It is a worthwhile investment.
