1 out of 5 stars Disappointing   September 5, 2010

The price is right, until you realize that the grinder doesn't last more than about 20 uses. I've had two of these, eventually replaced it with another model.

1 out of 5 stars Trashing it...   September 5, 2010

I am ordering a replacement today. This is a terribel machine. Beans get stuck and the motor just spins. Shaking usually helps, but you never know how much coffee you are actually grinding. I email the Krups support people to see if I was doing something wrong and never got a response. Bad, bad design is all I can think of.

3 out of 5 stars Good grinder, but didn't last...   September 4, 2010

I bought this grinder a little over a year ago, and you would think that for the price it would last a little longer than the amount of time I had it. Before this grinder, I had a blade-style grinder that lasted for years before it gave up the ghost (including two years of frequent coffee-making in college). Don't get me wrong, while it lasted, this grinder was great! Easy cleaning, fairly quiet operation, and automatic settings made it extremely convenient and it took the measuring out of coffee-making. You do need to make sure you clean the hopper and blade frequently, though, otherwise the beans tend to get hung up in the hopper. If you have the will to spend the money, however, I would recommend a higher quality grinder that might have better odds of going the distance.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price   September 1, 2010
Carol Lysek (Albany, OR United States)
I have owned this coffee grinder for almost two years. If you expect this grinder to make espresso, forget it. If all you need is a good cup of drip coffee via a funnel and paper filter, then this is the one for you. I have to dial the finest grind to get something suitable for drip coffee. As others have said, sometimes these dials move around so you have to hold on to the dials while you press the button.

It also leaves a pretty big mess on the counter top, but whattheheck, you do get a pretty descent cup of coffee. The noise level is slightly less than a jackhammer. My dog goes nuts when he sees me headed for the coffee grinder -- it's a perverse sort of entertainment :-).

After almost two years the plastic button broke. This is what makes capitalism work! I notice someone else said their button broke after two years. Alas, there was nothing I could do but throw it in the garbage can. So figure on two years of service for $60. When you look at how expensive burr grinders can get, this is a pretty good deal.

I just ordered the Kitchen Aid Onyx and for $200 could NOT get as fine a grind as I got from the $60 Krups. I am waiting for a replacement Kitchen Aid Onyx grinder -- hopefully it will work better. It is definitely much better built than the Krups!

1 out of 5 stars Static! Static! Static!   August 30, 2010
O.A. WAGNER
Even though there were some negative reviews, I still purchased this because I had been happy with my Krups blade grinder, and wanted to 'upgrade' to a burr grinder. Unfortunately, this grinder is absolute rubbish for the following reasons:

(01) Static! As mentioned by many reviewers, there is a huge static buildup which causes the grind to stick all over the receptable. Furthermore, when you attempt to transfer the charged grind to your coffee maker it flies all over the place (because it is charged up). As attractive as the grinder looks, it makes an absolute mess.

(02) Jammed Beans - Even when filled way below the ridiculously low 'Max' level, you can't press the 'Start' button and walk away, because the beans jam and don't continue to feed into the grinder. If you are not there to smack the side of the grinder it remains jammed and you will end up with far too little grind.

Therefore, after only owning this device for around 3 months, I am totally fed up, and ordered the much more expensive KichenAid this morning. I am truly disappointed that Amazon sells crap like this, when there are clearly so many unhappy reviews.
